In the world of technology today, things consistently change. The same is for project management. The question that most organizations are facing is whether they should go with a traditional framework, or one of the many agile frameworks. This session will be to look at not just the frameworks, and the different uses, but have some discussion on why you have to choose just one. I believe that the project and the need is what determines the framework that is best to be used. I have seen organizations fail on trying to fit all work into one framework, as we know that one size does not always fit all, and to have a successful PMO and project management practice, one must be ready to do a side step when needed. The specific frameworks that will be discussed will be waterfall, iterative, scrum, extreme programming, and hybrids. I hope you will join me as look at how a successful PMO can operate with multiple frameworks.

The failure rate for PMO’s is very high in the first 3 years. Our PMO here at Canyon County was no exception. We did a reboot of the PMO and have had a lot of success with it. I have asked my CIO to give some thought to what he sees as the biggest or most important changes that affected the perception of, and productivity of the PMO. I suspect he will say “marketing what the PMO does”. From my point of view, I believe we are succeeding because we do a much better job of understanding the business needs, rather than just pushing a IT based solution.
